This weekend #iSearchMyCity is all about carnivals, food trucks and some lekker local music. Here’s your guide to the competition for Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March.
The 2014 Cape Town Carnival is set to be the biggest and best yet. Celebrating its fifth year, the carnival is, in a nutshell, “a glamorous celebration of African identity, diverse communities and cultures, and the transformative power of creativity”. This year’s theme is “Imagine” and it’s all about letting your imagination run wild. Expect crazy, colourful floats, incredible costumed performers (2000 of them!) and an electric vibe unlike any other. The FanWalk in Greenpoint is where all the action will take place with the parade starting at 7.30pm.
Perhaps grab a delicious burritos from Didi’s Bitchin Burritos food truck before the show? Who knows, a certain logo may be waiting for you there. Didi will be set-up opposite Wessels Street on Somerset Road between 2pm and 11pm.
Food trucks are taking the city by storm – check the others out here on the Cape Town Food Trucks Facebook page.
Freshly Ground in a pretty park for free? Um, yes please! Enjoy a laid-back performance by local talent Freshly Ground while you nibble on your picnic snacks and revel in the last bit of the summer sunshine. This concert will be the last for this season and will bring to a close a third successful year of Concerts in the Park. The band is on from 4pm on Sunday, so bring your family and friends and enjoy an hour and a half of some lekker South African tunes.
Now that you’re armed with the necessary information to successfully locate that winning #iSearchMyCity logo this weekend, get going and enjoy exploring our phenomenal city. Remember to share those #selfies because a photo of yourself with that special logo could win you that incredible prize, proudly brought to you by NAC Helicopters Cape Town, Black Key Diamonds and The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.
