Muizenberg

A jewel of the False Bay coast, the beach town of Muizenberg is best known for its colourful beach huts, historical sites and architecture, and laid-back culture
About the area

Muizenberg lies just beyond Simon’s Town and Fish Hoek, boasts a fantastic mix of historical sites, grand architecture, popular beach-fronts and an infectious laidback culture. The suburb is flanked by the mountain of the same name and overlooks the heart of Cape Town’s southern suburbs. When enjoying either the scenic Three Bays or Cape Point tours, you can expect to be treated to sweeping views of the Cape Peninsula.

The False Bay coast is renowned for its impressive beaches and Muizenberg beach is a firm favourite for tourists and locals alike. The colourful changing rooms that line the white sands of the beach have featured on many a postcard and from above, they add colourful bursts of colour to the landscape. The small suburb is densely packed with historical buildings such as the SA Police Museum and Het Posthuys, which date back to mid-1700. Another coastal yet underrated road that winds along Muizenberg Mountain is Boyes Drive, a spectacular route that offers great whale watching lookout points.
